HP is producing scanners since the middle of the 1980s, the development of multi purpose devices started early.

There are numerous reasonably priced HP flatbed scanners available, of which some do feature an integrated transparency unit. However, the main focus lies not on film scanning, but on paper and document scanning.
HP Scanjet G4050

  • Color depth: 96 bit (with 6-Color-Scan)
The Scanjet G4050 is a flatbed scanner for documents and photos, with the transparency unit also for slides, negatives and filmstrips. It's possible to scan 16 framed slides or 30 small picture negatives simultaneously due to the exceptionally big transparency unit.

The outstanding optical resolution the manufacturer claims for the Scanjet G4050 has to be taken skeptically - especially when regarding the G4050's low price category.
