Important Note for Nikon CoolScan 4000, 8000, and 9000 Devices and macOS

With the update to macOS 26 Tahoe, Apple will discontinue support for FireWire. This will directly affect the functionality of older scanner models such as the Nikon Super CoolScan 4000 ED, 8000 ED, and 9000 ED, which rely on a FireWire connection for operation. FireWire devices that could previously be connected using one or more adapters will also be affected.

Even if you use the SilverFast software from LaserSoft Imaging, which normally ensures compatibility with current operating systems, these scanners will no longer operate under macOS 26. The limitation is the lack of hardware support from Apple.

Recommendation:

Do not update to macOS 26 if you plan to continue using your Nikon CoolScan device. These scanners can still be operated with an older Mac or a macOS system running macOS 15 or older.
