The scanner software SilverFast SE Plus 8 allows to capture 64bit/ 48bit RAW data which can then be processed with SilverFast HDR 8. The RAW data captures all information contained within the image, making it ideal for post-processing it at a later time. The new SilverFast Archive Suite SE 8 package contains the two individual programs SilverFast SE Plus 8 and SilverFast HDR 8.

HDRi The SilverFast HDRi RAW data format with infrared channel
The HDRi feature is part of any SilverFast HDR and Archive Suite edition version 6.6.1 or later. The 64bit HDRi color files (and the 32bit grayscale files respectively) developed therefore contain all readable image information including the data from the infrared channel, whose data can be used for iSRD, SilverFast's dust and scratch removal. Hence, HDRi RAW data is the perfect source material for any later post processing steps.

HDR(i) Workflow - (1) Scanning with SilverFast SE Plus

By means of the intelligent frame-finding option and the lossless HDR(i) archive format (64bit/ 48bit RAW data) processing a large number of images in a very short amount of time is easy. This digitized data is then safe from destruction, wear and loss.

Additionally, SilverFast's Multi-Exposure ensures the highest possible quality while any noise is minimized and density is dramatically increased, revealing more details in the darker areas without over-exposing the highlights. Without the Multi-Exposure, this additional information could not be captured. A permanent gamma syncronization of the 64bit/ 48bit data ensures the consistent and predictable brightness and color reproduction between SilverFast SE Plus and SilverFast HDR.

Beyond that, with version 6.6.1r4 SilverFast saves scanner related information along with the image data.* This allows an advanced automatic Unsharp Masking for the later post processing with SilverFast HDR, which takes the specific scanner details into account and is therefore able to produce brilliant, pin sharp images.

* Note: This feature has been released for the scanner brands Agfa, Canon, Epson, Mediax, Microtek, Nikon, PIE, Plustek, Reflecta, Umax and more.

HDR(i) Workflow - (2) Optimizing with SilverFast HDR

SilverFast HDR allows the post-processing of this scanner RAW data. This principle is known from digital photography - professionals always capture images in a camera RAW format in order to obtain maximum image quality and increase the amount of useable information captured in the image. SilverFast's HiRePP function within SilverFast HDR, makes it possible to open these 64bit/ 48bit RAW files in realtime. Only one single scan is needed; once the data is captured, it can be used in a variety of different ways. May it be a fine-art print, a presentation, a postcard or a web gallery.

Notes and « SilverFast Archive Suite » Professional Version

We recommend our professional version SilverFast Archive Suite to photographers and advanced users.
Take advantage of all SilverFast Ai features with the JobManager for convenient batch processing. Using the expert mode you gain complete control over all settings. Color management with ICC workflow, IT8 calibration as well as RGB/ CMYK SoftProof enable true-color images from scan to print.

Notes: The Archive Suite SE is only available for scanners where a SE Plus version is available. SilverFast Multi-Exposure® (support list), iSRD® (support list) and Auto Frame Dectection for filmholders (support-list) are hardware dependent. Please check if your scanner supports those features.

« Those who have large quantities of old transparencies and negatives to scan will find this feature-set to be not only very effective, but also a huge time-saver. »
