Support Assistant (FAQ)
How do I scan an IT8 target with SilverFast to create a scanner profile with a third party software?

SymptomSymptom:
I need to use a third party software to create a scanner profile.
How do I setup SilverFast to read the IT8 target in a neutral way?

ProblemProblem:
You did e.g. purchase an Epson Perfection V750 that comes with SilverFast Ai, also with X-Rite EZColor and targets from X-Rite.
Because the reference files for the targets are unfortunately not conform to the IT8 standard, but are available only in binary format, you cannot use those with SilverFast's own IT8 calibration.
In order to make a useful scan for a third party software, you need to ensure that SilverFast doesn't influence the scanned color data.

SolutionSolution:
When you are using a third party's software to calibrate, you need to make sure that SilverFast scans the image without any color corrections.

In order to do so, please open the SilverFast options dialogue:

  • on the "General" tab, check the "for HDR output" box
  • make sure the gamma value is set in accordance with your monitor and Photoshop settings

When you do your scan for the third party profiling software, select "48 bit HDR color" scan mode type on the "Frame" panel of the main dialogue.
Save the resulting image to TIFF file format.

After the scanner profile had been written by your third party profiling software, open SilverFast's option dialogue, and activate the new profile on the CMS tab.
To do so, set "Input>Internal" to (Win:) "ICM" or (Mac:) "ColorSync".

Also you need to select to profile in the middle part of the CMS dialogue to be used as the input profil or accordingly for "Scanner(Reflective)" or "Scanner(Transparency)".

My problem is now solved. My problem is still not solved.
