Sven Voigtläner (7600i Ai) - I was looking for a high-quality film scanner that was priced significantly below Nikon‘s scanners. I didn‘t want to purchase a flatbed scanner with transparency unit, so I quickly ended up with the Plustek devices. After I read on the internet what SilverFast is capable to do, I decided for the Ai version. So far, I am always very pleased with the results and I can recommend this product without any restrictions.

Todd Winters (8200i Ai) - I‘m using the new Plustek 8200i Ai to scan my slides for about two months now. The possibilities to control the output with SilverFast are amazing, I get best results for every original. The dust and scratch removal tool iSRD is especially helpful. Just press the button and the image looks like new.

L. Linden (7200i) - L. Linden (7200i) - This scanner in combination with SilverFast software offers a good price/ performance ratio. After a short period of getting familiar, the software is easy to use and the scanner provides very acceptable image quality. For my slides, 3600 dpi is way enough, with 7200 dpi, the quality does not rise, but scan time and data volume do.

The hardware-based dust and scratch correction iSRD delivers truly amazing results, but the processing time per slide rises from less than 1 min to about 4 min. This may also depend on the speed of your PC (in my case an Intel Centrino 1.73 GHz with 1.25 GB RAM). It will take its time, if you have a larger amount of slides to scan with iSRD. I criticize the lack of a fixation for the slide holder, which requires to adjust the software scan frame manually for every slide, but this is easily done. In addition, the dynamic range of 3 is not particularly large, but this isn‘t even noticeable for most slides. Overall, a successful product for the ambitious holiday photographer.

Kodachrome - Special Profiles for Brilliant Results

Thanks to our special Kodachrome profiles for our Plustek software you have three major advantages compared to usual software that let you finally scan your Kodachrome slides in high quality: maximum Dynamic Range, IT8 calibration and free of dust and scratches.

Scanning Kodachromes with attention to recording the complete dynamic range is a considerable challenge. This, because the dynamic range reaches up to 3.8D - which is a grayscale range of 6300 shades and equals a contrast range of 1:6300! Fortunately SilverFast Multi-Exposure can handle the enormous dynamic range with film scanners. This guarantees reproduction of the deepest shades inside Kodachromes successfully.

If you scan Kodachromes without IT8 calibration, the scans will consistently show a strong blue cast. Using SilverFast, the user simply goes to the general panel in SilverFast's main control dialog selects "Kodachrome" from the Pos./Neg. pop-up menu. SilverFast now applies a Kodachrome profile, which is specifically adjusted for your Plustek scanner. The blue cast is removed from the image!
