Research project "Herbar Digital"

The University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Hannover, Germany initiated the “Herbar Digital” research project in 2007: “Rationalizing the virtualization of botanical document material and their usage by process optimization and automation”. The aim is to make herbarium plant specimens accessible for digital use – and thus accessible for research in a new way. As an example, the scientists used material collected over the last 200 years at the Botanic Garden and Botanical Museum Berlin-Dahlem (around 3.5 million “plant specimens”). In 2007, around 800,000 Euros were advanced by Faculty IV “Business and Computer Science”, Faculty I “Electrical Engineering and Information Technology” and Faculty II “Mechanical Engineering and Bio Process Engineering”.
