Support Assistant (FAQ)
SilverFast 8 can not find my Nikon Scanner on my Windows machine.

SymptomSymptom:
My Nikon scanner is not recognized by SilverFast 8.

ProblemProblem:
SilverFast 8 uses new unique drivers. These require that old drivers like these installed by Nikon or SilverFast 6 have to be removed.

In case you are using a Windows 8 64bit system you can find informations on how to install drivers on that system here in our support system!

In case you are using a Windows 8.1 64bit system you can find informations on how to install drivers on that system
 here in our support system!

SolutionSolution:
Since version 8.0.1r51 SilverFast includes a certified driver. In case you have issues accessing the driver, make sure you are using the latest update.

First you can try simply plugging your Scanner into a different USB/FireWire port.
This often reinitializes the automated driver installation.

You can also install the driver through the Windows device manager:
(Win-key + pause-key -> device manager is in the upper left corner) or (start menu -> right-click on computer -> properties -> device manager)
  1. First download this file containing the driver and un-zip it into an empty directory.
  2. Open the device manager.
  3. Right-Click the Nikon scanner and select "update driver software".
  4. Select "Browse my computer for driver software".
  5. Click the "Browse..." button to "Search for driver software in this location".
  6. Select the directory containing the unpacked driver .inf.
  7. In case warning about verification appears select "Install this driver anyway".
  8. After the installation was successful you can remove the .inf file/directory again. Windows has placed the file in its internal folder.

My problem is now solved. My problem is still not solved.
