Support Assistant (FAQ)
Manual installation of alias for Photoshop (Win)

SymptomSymptom:
No entry for SilverFast in Photoshop's file import menu.

ProblemProblem:
I want to start SilverFast directly from Photoshop. But unfortunately there's no menu item for SilverFast in the Photoshop menu at > File > Import. How can this be corrected?

SolutionSolution:
You need to do manually what SilverFast should have done itself automatically during the installation procedure:
Please create a shortcut to the SilverFast Photoshop plugin and put this in your Photoshop's Import-Export folder yourself.

The detailed description:

  1. Open your Windows Explorer
  2. Navigate to C:\Program files\SilverFast application
  3. Locate the Photoshop plug-in (an .8ba) file, probably in the sub folder "SilverFast (Scannername)"
  4. Create a shortcut to the plug-in there (you might want to rename it (drop the "Shortcut to" at the filename's beginning).
  5. A shortcut is created by right-clicking the file and drawing the mouse cursor (while keeping the right mouse button pressed) to an empty space in the Windows' Explorer right panel.
  6. When you now release the right mouse button, a context menu will pop-up, select "Create shortcut".
  7. Right-click on the newly create shortcut and select "cut".
  8. Change directories to
    C:\Program files\Adobe\Photoshop\Plug-ins\Import-Export\
  9. Right-click on the empty space in the right Explorer panel and select "paste" from the context menu.
  10. This action should have created a shortcut in the import/export folder of Photoshop to the SilverFast Photoshop plug-in located in the SilverFast programme folder.

Restart Photoshop and check your File>Import plug-in list.

My problem is now solved. My problem is still not solved.
