Q:

Where can I find the SilverFast SRD function?

A:

on this website you can see a SilverFast interface dialog (although it is a version 5.5)
https://www.silverfast.com/faq/1009/en.html

in the SilverFast preview window you will find a button with "a little first-aid kit in a blue sky". This is the dust scratch removal button. When you click this, it will turn into a button that says "SRD" and immediately another button is shown right below it. Click on that new button and the SRD dialog appears.

Q:

What is the function of this button?

A:

This button can activate at least one of two functions
1.) for scanners with an infrared channel SilverFast can use this infrared channel that scans the film material for particles (dust) or damages (scratches) that do not belong to the relevant image data. This is the ICE function in SilverFast
SilverFast only triggers this action in the scanner. the actual process of infrared scanning can not be controlled with SilverFast commands!!

2.) for all scanners (and file reader versions like DC and HDR) SilverFast can use a software-based algorithms for dust and scratch identification and removal.
This function is called SRD and can be used in and controlled by all SilverFast versions.

Q:

Can I purchase the Dust-Scratch Removal function for my scanner as an optional feature to SilverFast?

A:

No, this is not possible for two reasons:
1.) the ICE part of this function depends on the hardware used.
If your scanner does not have an infrared channel, the ICE function is NOT available.

2.) the SRD function is in the software by default (since SilverFast version 6) and there is no need to purchase this as an add-on.
