simply click on the "choose plug-in folder" option and an "open" dialog appears. Click here the path down to the Installation folder of your SilverFast plug-in.
on Windows = the "Import-Export" folder of Photoshop
on Macintosh = the "Import-Export" > "SilverFast(scanner)" folder.
|
Q: |
If I am using Adobe Photoshop, do I also need to run the SF_APP / SF_Launcher?
|
A: |
SF_App is used to run SilverFast products when you either do not have Photoshop or you do not need the full functions of Photoshop. |
Q: |
Where is the actual SilverFast software used by SF_App / SF_Launcher? |
A: |
There have been installers which installed such a SilverFast plug-in directly into the application folder of the "SF_APP" application.
If this is the case, SF_App will immediatly give these plug-ins as selection option.
The other installer installs only an alias to the actual SilverFast Photoshop installation. If this is the case, SF_App will also list the SilverFast plug-in as a choice.
SilverFast application "SF_App" is a application that opens SilverFast Photoshop plug-ins. |
Q: |
When I want to set a CMYK separation table (in CMS dialog, last field) I have some odd choices in that combo box. Isn't SilverFast compatible to Photoshop 7 for my Mac? |
A: |
These false entries in that combo box "Plug&Play CMYK" are due to a restructured Photoshop. This problem is fixed in SilverFast release versions 5.5.2r17. |
Q: |
Can I use my SilverFast software on Photoshop 7 in Macintosh OS 9.x? |
A: |
No, SilverFast 5.5 Photoshop plug-ins will not install correctly into Photoshop 7 application. This applies to all SilverFast versions 5.2.x up to 5.5.2!
Workaround for SilverFast as Photoshop plug-in:
download the SilverFast Ai ver. 5.5 or ver.6 software for Macintosh OSX and install it on Macintosh OS classic.
You can, however, install SilverFast as TWAIN module as usual into your Macintosh OS 9.x system and lauch SilverFast directly through Photoshop 7. No problems here. |
Q: |
Can I use SilverFast OSX software also on other Macintosh system (OS 8.6 to OS 9.22)? |
A: |
Yes, the SilverFast OSX installer holds two software versions of SilverFast, one is the native OSX version and the other is the classic OS version. SilverFast installer will always install the correct SilverFast software for the corresponding operating system. |
Q: |
Can I use my SilverFast software with Photoshop 7 on my Windows system? |
A: |
Yes, SilverFast software in version 6.0.1 or higher is compatible to Photoshop 7 on Windows machines. |

assign more working memory to Photoshop and assing more scratch disk volumes |
A: |
How to assingn more memory to host-application (Macintosh)?
in the Macintosh Finder click your way to the Folder of "Adobe Photoshop", highlight the "Photoshop" Program File and select "get info" from main menu (head of desktop). An information window appears. select here under the option "memory" and enter a higher value in "Preferred size". With a value of approx. 60 - 65% of physical RAM memory in "Preferred size" you are on the save side.
How to do assingn more memory to Photoshop (Windows)?
in Photoshop check whether you assigned sufficient physical RAM memory.
- in main menu select File (or Edit if PS 6) and choose Preferences
- choose here "memory & image cache"
- in section "physical memory usage" you can raise the percentage of RAM memory used by Photoshop. With a percentage of 65 - 75% you are on the save side.
more scratch disk space for Photoshop
in Photoshop check whether you assigned another partition / drive (if applicable) as additional scratch-disk:
- in main menu select File (or Edit if PS 6) and choose Preferences
- choose here Plug-ins & Scratch Disks
here you can select additional partitions / drives for the virtual memory administration of Photoshop.

Q: |
Empty buttons/icons in SF 5 Photoshop plug-in on Mac.
Conditions: SilverFast 5 uses the apple appearence manager to display its interface. The apple appearence manager must be activated (check in Control Panel > "Extension Manager") |
A: |
Workaround:
this appearance problem can be overcome by moving certain plugins - that are not fully compatible with Mac OS 8.x or higher - out of their location!
Please check if you can find the "Kodak CMS Photo CD" plugin in:
...Adobe Photoshop 5 > Plugins > Import/Export
...Adobe Photoshop 4 > Plugins > file formats
Please delete (or move to another place) this "Kodak CMS Photo CD" plugin module.
If problem not solved:
appart from that Kodak PhotoCD-plugin, it could also be any other non-OS8.x-compatible plugin. If removal of that "Kodak CMS Photo CD" plugin doesn't solve the problem, try removing other 3rd party plugins out of their resident folder, and check SilverFast again.

|
Q: |
When I scan with SilverFast into Photo Impact 8 that scan is cut into pieces and set together in the wrong order. Is this a bug? |
A: |
This happens when the image preview of SilverFast was rotated before the scan.
Workaround: rotating the scan result in Photo Impact 8 various times will put the image together in the correct order. |
Q: |
Why can't SilverFast transfer the filename I choose for a scan? When the image arrives in my host application it is always an "untitled" image. |
A: |
You must have used SilverFast as TWAIN module. The filename cannot be transferred into the host application due to the limitations of the TWAIN communication capabilities. |
Q: |
My Mac gives three beeps on every mouse-click while working in SilverFast. What is going on here? |
A: |
The beeping is an indication that the Mac is low in memory and cannot issue an alert message. Either you have not enough physical memory in your machine or your host application needs a greater share of the working memory (RAM).
This is how to assingn more memory to applications on Macintosh:
close your application.
change to the Macintosh finder
in the Macintosh Finder click your way to the Folder with the Program icon of your host application
highlight the program icon and select "get info" from main menu file (head of desktop).
An information window appears. Select here under show the option "memory" and enter a higher value in "Preferred size". With a value of approx. 60 - 65% of physical RAM memory in "Preferred size" you are on the save side.
