Q:

Now that I want to run SilverFast for my USB/Firewire scanner, which drivers do I need to install or does SilverFast install all necessary drivers already?

A:

The manufacturer's scan software should be installed on your system in order to enable communication with the device.
Nikon scanners are the exception! SilverFast will install all necessary driver files for Nikon film scanners. No need to install NikonScan software on the system.

Q:

USB basic troubleshooting on Macintosh

A:

SilverFast for USB devices depends on the USB device drivers (extensions) for a given device, in order to communicate with the device. SilverFast usually does not install such USB extensions and therefore the installation of the manufacturerâÃÃs scan software is required, because this will install the necessary device extensions.

* Apple USB Manager (extension) must be up-to-date.
* USB extensions for device must be up-to-date
* Is the scanner shown as USB device in system profiler?
* plug USB cable back into old port, is scanner now recognized in System Profiler?
* Unplug USB cable at computer's rear and plug into other USB port and try again.
* Start computer with Mac OS basic System extensions (select in "ExtensionManager" before restart). Restart the
computer and re-install the device extensions, try SilverFast again. If SilverFast cannot find scanner check if USB extensions are installed and active. Also check if device is correctly shown in Apple System Profiler.
