HP
HP is producing scanners since the middle of the 1980s, the developement of multi purpose devices started early.

There are numerous reasonably priced HP flatbed scanners available, of which some do feature an integrated transparency unit. However, the main focus lies not on film scanning, but on paper and document scanning.
HP Scanjet G4050
  • Flatbed scanner with transparency unit (216mm x 311mm)
  • Optical resolution: 4800 x 9600 dpi (according to manufacturer)
  • Color depth: 96 bit (with 6-Color-Scan)
The Scanjet G4050 is a flatbed scanner for documents and photos, with the transparency unit also for slides, negatives and filmstrips. It's possible to scan 16 framed slides or 30 small picture negatives simultaneously due to the exceptionally big transparency unit.

The outstanding optical resolution the manufacturer claims for the Scanjet G4050 has to be taken skeptically - especially when regarding the G4050's low price category. However, the device benefits noticeable from a color calibration and an increasement of the dynamic range using SilverFast.

Infrared dust and scratch removal not supported.
Multi-Exposure cannot be combined with the six color scan ability of the G4050.
Please use the latest driver package from HP (9.0 and newer) to assure compatibility.
